Tier II/AA Team Structure
All listed teams will play in the Rocky Mountain Regional Silver Stick tournament, cost is not included in the projected team figure. Teams & Coaches
We have a large pool of quality coaches from which to draw for all openings. The BHC Coaching Committee is currently reviewing applications and meeting with coaches to fill the remaining spots.
BHC B.E.S.T. Training Program
BHC will continue the Boulder Elite Skills Training (B.E.S.T.) program for the 2012-2013 season. The Director will add a Goalie/Shooting session once a month this year. The B.E.S.T. Program was designed by the BHC Hockey Director and Coaching Committee to insure all BHC players from Mites to Bantams, from Tier II to Rec. level players, receive the ice time and coaching they need to move to the next level. The B.E.S.T. Program adds one “touch” a week for each player on average and allows the BHC hockey directors to bring their knowledge and training to each player in the association.
The schedule and training program is described in much greater detail below under each of the division sections.
8 & Under Program (Mites) The CCYHL voted to adopt a new training model for the 8 & under program in Colorado. All CCYHL associations will follow this new model instituted by USA Hockey and the CCYHL. Mites will have their skill sessions on Wednesday nights along with two touches on the weekends.
USA Hockey ADM Model:
CCYHL 8 & Under Rules – 2012/2013
1. All teams will play cross-ice or half ice games for the entire season.
2. Blue pucks will be used at all Mite levels.
3. All associations must follow the CCYHL player selection rules for their teams.
4. Players must be registered through USA Hockey by their association only and are not required to be rostered on a particular team within that association.
5. No Mite teams can travel out of state during the season unless the association petitions in writing and is granted approval by the league.
6. The acceptance criteria for a jamboree are as follows: CCYHL teams, then CDYHL teams, then teams from Wyoming or New Mexico only. Teams from other states may not be accepted into a jamboree.
Game Procedures
1. Game lengths should be 50-60 minutes in length.
2. Four to six teams per cross-ice/half-ice game session.
3. Nine to thirteen skaters per team.
4. Some variation of 5v5 or 4v4 based on number of players on each team to ensure a 3:1 or 2:1 work to rest ratio.
5. Running time with 90 second or 2 minute buzzers for line changes.
6. The use of scoreboard or scorekeeping is not allowed.
7. USA Hockey referees are not required (coaches may ‘referee’).
Squirt Program
All BHC Squirts will take part in a “Skills and Small Games Training Program” . This will allow players to play multiple sports in the fall. This will also eliminate the stress on the early season tryout and the "push" to get ready for games shortly thereafter. After a month of practices to hone their skills and get in shape, the BHC Coaching Committee will assist the Head Coaches with team selections.
Game Procedures
1. Game lengths should be 60 minutes with 3 - 12 minute stop periods.
2. Maximum of 15 skaters & 1-2 goalies per team.
Player Selection
1. Teams will be divided into A, B & C divisions as always.
The B.E.S.T Ice Model for Squirts
Mondays – Individual Skill Night
We will have the 4 squirt teams on the ice, which will be split into 3 stations: Small Games, Power Skating and Skills. The BHC Hockey Directors: Chris Lockrem, Jimmy Dexter and Neil Runbeck will run these stations with the help of the coaching staff of each team. This will allow the Directors to get multiple touches with every Squirt player each month. It also gives the Head Coaches an opportunity to work with the Directors so they can reinforce good habits at their own practices.
Tuesday or Wednesday Team Practices
The four teams will rotate through two 1/2 ice slots
Thursday/Friday Team Practice
On Friday’s all Squirt teams will have a half ice practice session where they will work on team tactics and strategies needed for the coming weekend games.
Weekend Practices
As the game schedule and ice schedule allow, teams will still have Saturday and Sunday practices as usual. These practices will be mostly full ice.
Peewee & Bantam Programs
BHC Peewee and Bantam Division Tryouts
Tryouts will start August 18th for all Peewee and Bantam players. Tier II (AA) tryouts will be held first. There will be a $50.00 tryout fee for the Tier II team tryouts, which will cover additional ice and staffing. Each team will have 3 tryout sessions. Bantam AA and Peewee AA teams will carry anywhere from 17-20 players. The Head Coaches and BHC Coaching Committee will approve all roster sizes and players assigned to each team.
Although Tier II tryouts will have been completed, coaches may decide to carry 3-4 extra players for up to 30 days for further evaluation. In the past BHC has selected its teams and solidified the rosters at the end of tryouts. We want to learn from our mistakes and make sure we have the "right players" on all teams. Sometimes players come in "rusty" and don’t show their true potential until a month into the season. Any player that is skating with the AA team after tryouts and is released from the team will have a roster spot on the next highest team. This situation will be communicated to the coaches, BHC Coaching Committee and the parents of any player affected.
Rec. Teams Tryouts
Tryouts will be conducted immediately after the AA tryouts during the week of August 23rd. At the Bantam level we will field an A1 and an A2 team and a B team. At the Peewee level we project to field an A1 team, an A2 team and a B team. These rosters will be 17-20 players in size and must be approved by the head coach and the BHC Coaching Committee.
The Peewee & Bantam B.E.S.T Ice Model All Peewee and Bantam teams will have the following weekly practice sessions for the 2012-2013 Season.
Mondays- Individual Skill Night
Four teams on the ice, which is split into three stations: Small Games; Power Skating and; Skills. The BHC Hockey Directors will run the three stations with the help of the coaching staff of each team on ice. This allows the Directors to get multiple touches with all players on all teams each month. It also gives the coaches an opportunity to work with the Directors so they can reinforce good habits at their other practices. We will add a goalie shooting session once per month this season.
Tuesday thru Friday
All teams will have two "team" weekday touches along with the Monday Skills Night, a 1/2 ice and a 30/30 practice. The 1/2 ice practice will be based on teaching through Small Area Games. The 30/30 touch day is to focus on Team Tactics and Strategies.
Weekend Touches
All Bantam and Peewee teams will have weekend touches. Most of which will be full ice.
Midget Program
The 2012-2013 CCYHL Season comes with many changes including a major change at the Midget Tier II level. Minor AA and Major AA teams at ALL CCYHL associations will play a split season to accommodate the growth of CHSAA hockey throughout the state.
What will this entail and how will it affect BHC?
Tryouts will start on August 18th for all CCYHL associations. BHC will have three tryout sessions for Minor AA/A teams. Once the teams are selected, they will follow the CCYHL format below.
Midget Practices
Both Midget teams will get two practices a week; a full ice and a half ice or 30/30. With the short season, Midgets will have at least two weekend touches.
CCYHL Midget Tier II Rules – 2010/2011
Midget Teams
BHC will not field teams at the Midget Major level for the 2012-2013 season. We may field those teams in the future, but our current number for projected Midget players for the 2012-2013 season does not support any Major aged teams. There are many other options for Midget Major aged players at this coming season including Juniors, Tier I, CHSAA, HPHL and DNHL.
